***Postponed to Saturday, Nov 9 , 3 pm to 8 pm ***
Due to increased dangers posed by smoke, wind and fire, the decision has been made to postpone tonight's hike to Saturday, November 9. Please note the earlier start time due to an earlier sunset on that date. This decision is being made for the safety of our participants. We regret any inconvenience and hope that you can join us at our new date and time. All other aspects of the event shall remain the same.

Description: The mighty San Gabriels tower over the lives of 15 million people across Southern California, forming a partition of granite tracing the boundaries of two great continental plates. Join us for an easy, fun moonlight hike appropriate for beginners as we make the pleasant walk up the last 500 feet of Mt. Lowe over a mile and a half course. We’ll watch as the sun’s amber splashdown in the Pacific silhouettes several coastal mountain ranges to the west. As the sun disappears, we shall delight as the moon casts a soft glow turning nearby peaks to blue, and guides us back down the trail through fresh, mountain air. City lights will form a bejeweled tablecloth over a mile below. Bring a potluck item to share. Wine, cheese and all evening cuisine welcome.

Date: Saturday, Nov. 9, 2019
Time: 3:00 pm to 8:00 pm

Where to meet: at the La Canada ride share point, just two blocks north of where the Angeles Crest Highway climbs from the 210 towards the mountains. From the 210 freeway, exit at Highway 2, the Angeles Crest or “Highway to the Stars” and drive uphill towards the mountains. There is an island on the east side of the road where we can park. For navigation, use “Milmada Dr. and Flanders Rd., La Canada Flintridge.”

What to Bring: Water, hiking boots and potluck item to share. Flashlight or headlamp to be used in shaded areas in the dark. Insect repellent suggested. Blanket or pad to spread food and sit on is optional. Bring eating utensils, napkins and plastic bags to carry refuse out. Dress warmly with a sweatshirt and a jacket, as the mountains have four seasons and it can get nippy a mile up after sundown.

Degree of Difficulty: Easy to moderate. 500’ elevation gain and loss, 3 miles round trip.. Children under the age of eight not recommended. No pets, please.

Special Needs: Because we will be carpooling, people willing to drive groups to the trailhead will be needed. Drivers will need to obtain an Adventure Pass from a sporting goods store, or the gas station near the ride share point, for $5 (penalty for non-compliance is $100).
