SOLD OUT - Mt. Wilson Star Party

A night of observing, along with a talk from UChicago Professor Mike Gladders.

Join us for a very special night under the stars! This event features a tour of the famous Mt. Wilson Observatory and lecture by UChicago Professor Mike Gladders, followed by a night of observing the cosmos through the historical 60-inch telescope.

The 60-inch telescope at Mt. Wilson was designed by George Ellery Hale and completed in 1908, and was at the time the largest telescope in the world. There is a strong UChicago connection to this observatory, as Hale had previously built the 40-inch telescope at UChicago's own Yerkes Observatory.

Professor Mike Gladders will join us for a talk about exciting observational astronomy in the present day, tying together the intellectual history of this amazing site to how current UChicago astronomers are studying the universe.

We politely recommend attendees to carpool to the event, as the observatory only has parking for 10 vehicles.
