Alumni Summer Yacht Party
(or "I'm on a Boat!")

Join your fellow UChicago alumni to cruise the Marina Del Rey Bay at sunset. Enjoy libations and conversations on a private chartered yacht; take full advantage of the on-board open bar, lounge, and dance floor. 60 person limit!

In putting together this event, I (Shao-Yi) took inspiration from the classic words of The Lonely Island ft. T-Pain; I hope that the first 59 of you will join me in quoting them to say - “I'm on a boat, I'm on a boat / Everybody look at me 'cause I'm sailing on a boat (whoa) / I'm on a boat, I'm on a boat / Take a good hard look at the mother*****' boat (shorty, shorty, yeah)” (Conveniently censored for any children reading over your shoulder.)

Our Alumni Summer Yacht Party represents the first of several blockbuster summer events we will be hosting as a club for all UChicago LA alumni and friends, so keep your eyes peeled for the next events as well. I know that you know your alumni friends would have a blast drinking on a boat – don’t leave them out and pass this on.

I’m sure you’re skimming this post to look for the details so here they are:

  • What: Cruise the Marina Del Ray Bay aboard a 60 person private yacht with full buffet and open bar
  • When: Saturday, June 23, 2018 promptly at 6 p.m. Please show up at least 15 minutes in advance to make sure you can board the boat
  • Where: The Tiki Mermaid at Marina Del Ray Harbor
  • Why: We’re awesome
  • Who: You and your alumni friends and family

The cruise will be 3 hours in length, from 6 to 9 p.m. An unlimited buffet and open bar are already included.

Enjoy a menu of:

  • Veggie spring rolls with sweet chili dip
  • Spicy Asian mango & almond salad
  • Pineapple garlic wild rice
  • Coconut chicken skewers with wasabi mayonnaise
  • Teriyaki filet of Atlantic salmon
  • Assorted homemade cookies & brownies

As always with open bar, I (Shao-Yi) highly recommend the use of any of the many ridesharing platforms available to you so there is no cause to drink and drive.

Parking: If you are driving, look for the restaurant El Torito or Whisky Reds in Fisherman’s Village and park anywhere in that parking lot. Parking is validated for the first 2 hours, and $1 per 20 minutes afterwards. Typically guests will leave paying $6 but the maximum fee is $15 in case you plan to arrive earlier or stay later. Please note that the parking booth only accepts cash. If you need to take a cab home for safety purposes, you may pick up your car the following day and pay the maximum fee.

This event is brought to you thanks to a very generous grant from the Alumni Association.
